Shiatsu was developed from old Eastern philosophy and modern knowledge of anatomy. It maintains the belief that everything is connected and can affect each other. Nothing is every all Yin or all Yang. They exist together.
Everything is formed from Ki. The goal of Shiatsu is to maintain or restore the balance of Ki in the body. The body’s Ki runs through twelve pairs of meridians and two vessels. Each meridian is rooted to an organ. After a thorough evaluation, the therapist can best decide which meridians need to be worked.
In Shiatsu, it is also important to consider our environment. Just as we can affect it, it can affect us. This is best demonstrated through the Five Element Theory. The five elements are fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. Each has a corresponding part of the body, emotion, color, season, and so on. These elements are used by the therapist to determine where any imbalances are.
A Shiatsu session is done in comfortable clothing, usually on a floor mat. It mainly consists of compressing and stretching the areas through which the meridians flow. It’s a great way to address many different ailments and to keep yourself balanced.
This treatment is perfect for anyone who wishes to remain dressed or is new to bodywork. Schedule your appointment today.
